BENEFITS OF E-LEARNING

Most Universities now offer online courses and you can even earn an entire degree without ever stepping into a classroom.  Most people are familiar with e-learning as it applies to college or university but may not think of it as applying to their business.

Online Learning or E-learning is rapidly catching on in the business world because it is highly flexible and offers many options for training your employees. E-learning is an efficient and effective way for companies to train their office staff and it can be used just as effectively for plant, operations and warehouse employees.

Companies can use E-learning to train employees on topics like training new employees to do a specific job, government compliance, legal issues, workplace safety, and company policies. The benefits of E-learning are numerous:

  1. E-Learning is cost effective. Costs that would normally be associated with classroom training such as travel, hotel, learning materials, venue rental, catering, and instructor fees are eliminated.
  1. E-Learning is Flexible. Training can be done at the employee’s convenience and is available 24/7. Employees can train whenever and wherever they need it, without having to assemble in a classroom and interrupt productivity. E-Learning has no geographical boundaries. Employees can participate in online training from anywhere with an Internet connection.
  1. E-Learning is efficient as it provides a way to train current employees on new policies and procedures faster than ever before. E-Learning shortens the time it takes a new employee to get “up to speed” and be productive.
  1. E-Learning maximizes learning retention. Content is offered exactly the same way to every employee. Employees have the opportunity to learn at their own pace.
  1. E-Learning can be customized. Each company can customize the content of the course to meet their needs. Training modules can be updated quickly and conveniently as needed.
  1. E-Learning results can be tracked and evaluated. Training is automatically tracked so you know who has completed it and who may have missed it. A short quiz can be included to ensure they actually paid attention and understood the content.
  1. E-Learning is eco-friendly as it allows organizations to significantly reduce their carbon footprint.

The most common option/format for teaching online is a Learning Management System (LMS). Learning Management Systems function as an online classroom where online instructors can hold discussions, upload readings, show videos and play audio, carry out learning activities, make announcements and assess and grade student work.

LMSs store and deliver materials developed in a variety of different formats — everything from MS Office documents to videos and third-party applications. They can be hosted locally (i.e., kept on a server physically located at the company) or remotely, “in the cloud” wherein the LMS company manages all server-related issues.

E-learning solutions enable organizations to proactively and efficiently equip employees with specialized knowledge and expertise to perform optimally. E-Learning will help companies create a higher quality, more effective training experience for employees that will result in improved performance for the employee and the company.
