Online Training: Creating the Perfect Program

The value and efficacy of eLearning are undeniable. Helping companies and businesses save thousands of dollars in employee training money, eLearning ensures all of that is done perfectly minus having to spend a fortune. If you’ve chosen the right platform, there are a couple of things that you should know before you get down to designing a training program. Here’s a short list to help ensure that you create the perfect course for your employees to learn from:

Finding out what is needed

Use your researching skills to carry out an initial assessment. Pinpoints areas where you think your employees need to be trained in. The best way to do that is to look at your competition, and evaluate what’s bringing more success to whom. Your second approach would be to look at evolved methods and technologies that haven’t been incorporated into your businesses, and then training your workforce in that direction. The assessment must be completely in line with your business goals, and must point towards the progressed and evolved “tomorrow” that you’ve envisioned.

Structuring your content ethically

There are two aspects to carrying out this step successfully. Firstly, you need to compile your content in the finest way possible, taking the bottom-up approach. You need to start with the very basics, progress into principle and end with examples, just so your employees know exactly what they’re supposed to learn. Secondly, while doing this, ensure you’re ethical towards your employees. Your content should never address them as disciples, or high-school students, they’re experienced professionals and you must keep that in mind. Give them the respect that they deserve, and ensure that they see your content as goal-oriented and fitting to their professional positions.

Creating learning objectives to evaluate progress

When you’re done creating the content, be sure to add learning objectives after every chapter or module. These objectives should be well-defined and easily measurable, just so it is easier to evaluate employee progress.

Doing a test run

Now that your content has finally taken shape, use some of your employees as a “test class” and have them complete your training program from their platforms. Keep a close eye on their progress and evaluate exactly what they’re learning and where your training program is lacking. Look for indicators that suggest likeness by the employees, their personal evaluations of the program, their performance after learning, etc. You would need at least a month after training to evaluate effectively.

Hammering out the problems

Based on what you observe over the first couple of weeks after your test run, reevaluate everything in your program. Keeping in view your learning outcomes, measure if each training component did justice to what it was supposed to deliver. Even if you might have to redo everything entirely, you must not hesitate, since the training of your employees is of immense value to you and your company.

Is it really this important to be meticulous about what you teach your workforce? Absolutely. The reason why your employees are in your company, is because they’re good at what they do. With such professionalism in play, you cannot manage to teach the wrong things to good hands!
